BLACKPINK member Jisoo (30) said she often drinks soy milk in place of meals to stay in shape.
Recently, a video titled “[Dex’s Cold Interview] My Sweet and Fierce Friend EP.30 Jisoo Edition” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘117’.
In the video, Jisoo’s refrigerator was revealed. When Dex looked at the foods in the fridge and asked, “Is there anything you eat to manage your weight?” Jisoo picked up a carton of soy milk.
She explained, “When I can’t eat rice during shoots, this is a good alternative. I always keep it stocked in my fridge and bring it to filming sets. I had some this morning too.”
Soy milk, rich in protein and dietary fiber, promotes satiety and muscle growth
The soy milk Jisoo enjoys during her diet is rich in protein, which helps maintain a feeling of fullness and supports muscle maintenance or growth. It also contains a significant amount of dietary fiber, aiding digestion and preventing constipation.
Dietary fiber slows down digestion and absorption in the body, helping to reduce blood sugar spikes and maintain stable energy levels. By preventing rapid blood sugar spikes, it regulates insulin secretion, which can inhibit fat accumulation.
Choose products with low sugar and additives
However, it’s important to carefully check the nutritional labels when selecting soy milk. Many commercially available soy milk products contain added sugar or syrup, which can increase calorie intake and negatively impact dieting.
Products with added plant-based cream may also have higher calorie and fat content. Especially, products emphasizing richness or sweetness often contain unnecessary additives, so it’s best to choose unsweetened soy milk or products with low sugar content.
Frequently replacing meals with soy milk may lead to nutritional imbalance
While Jisoo mentioned using soy milk as a meal replacement, frequently substituting rice with soy milk can lead to insufficient intake of carbohydrates and other nutrients, potentially causing energy supply issues. Therefore, it’s better to consume soy milk as a protein-rich snack while maintaining a balanced diet.
Additionally, although soy milk is good for dieting, drinking too much can lead to excessive calorie intake. It’s recommended to stick to the daily intake of 1-2 cups (200-400mL). Certain individuals should also be cautious: the isoflavones in black bean soy milk have estrogen-like effects, so those with a history of hormone-related cancers, such as breast or uterine cancer, should consult a doctor before consuming it.
